Dental Implant Color Chart: Planning the Visible Tooth
Start with the part of the restoration you will see when you smile. A shade chart is a reference for discussing that tooth with your dentist, alongside the surrounding teeth and the proposed material.

Dental implant color chart: what you are choosing
For an implant restoration, the visible replacement tooth has its own appearance plan. Identify the proposed crown, bridge or denture, then ask which shade guide applies. A chart cannot select the right restoration or promise a match by itself.
Separate implant hardware from tooth color
The FDA's implant overview distinguishes the implant body in the jaw, the abutment that supports the attached artificial tooth, and the restoration you see.
The American Dental Association's implant overview distinguishes the post in the jaw from the replacement tooth it supports. For a single implant, the visible tooth is a crown whose design includes color, shape, size and fit.
When you ask about color, specify that you mean the visible restoration. Ask the dental team to explain any hardware labels separately. Do not use this patient shade guide to identify or select implant components.
Start your notes with two questions: what restoration is proposed, and what shade reference is being used for its visible teeth?

Read implant tooth shades by their system
VITA's classical guide includes A1 and B1 as named tooth-shade references. They are examples of reference labels, not a complete implant-specific palette or a list of clinic stock.
| Named reference | Example | What it refers to | What it does not decide |
|---|---|---|---|
| VITA classical A1-D4 | A1 | A tooth-shade tab in the A family | Implant hardware or the final restoration by itself |
| VITA classical A1-D4 | B1 | A tooth-shade tab in the B family | Which implant system or material is suitable |
| Proposed restoration record | System name plus chosen code | The reference to discuss with the dental team | A guaranteed match in your mouth |
For broader reference-system context, use the veneer shade guide. Keep your implant restoration plan separate from veneer treatment decisions.
Discuss implant tooth color beside your smile
For one visible replacement tooth, ask how the proposed reference will be reviewed beside its neighbors. For a broader restoration, ask how the plan relates to teeth on the opposite arch that remain visible.
Explain the direction you want: close blending, a change in brightness, or an appearance you want to preserve. Let the dentist assess how that preference fits the clinical plan.
A saved picture can communicate what you like. It is not evidence that a particular code or material will reproduce that appearance for you. Ask to compare the physical reference and discuss the proposed restoration.
Read the single-tooth implant guide for restoration context, or the implant-denture guide if that is the proposed treatment.
The full-mouth implant guide covers the broader treatment context; a shade chart does not establish whether that treatment is appropriate.
Keep an implant shade-review record
Before a final restoration is made, ask what information will be shared with the laboratory: the named guide, code, photographs or other records, and any appearance details that need discussion. Confirm which records are actually part of your plan.
Ask what the available review stage can show and which changes remain possible afterward. Do not assume that a digital image, temporary restoration or a particular try-in stage is included.
For a denture-specific discussion of visible tooth and base shades, use the denture color chart guide. For treatment background, return to the dental implant guide.

Keep your implant tooth color questions together
The Colombia Smile Studio guide focuses on planning veneers abroad. Use it for that context and keep your treatment-specific questions for your dentist.
Your implant tooth color questions, answered
Does a dental implant color chart describe the visible restoration or the implant body?
This page concerns the visible crown, bridge or denture. The implant body and abutment are supporting components. Ask your dentist to identify which part a chart describes before using it in a tooth-shade discussion.
Is an implant manufacturer's component color code a tooth-shade prescription?
Do not use a component label as a cosmetic tooth-shade instruction. Ask the dental team to identify the hardware separately and record the named tooth-shade system for the visible restoration.
Which neighboring teeth matter when reviewing a single implant crown shade?
Ask to compare the proposed reference with the teeth beside the crown and any other teeth visible in your smile. The dentist should assess the relevant comparison; a chart cannot choose it for your individual case.
