Denture teeth and the gum-colored base are chosen from separate shade references. Record each one with its product name, so you can change one without losing the other.
Read the tooth and gum parts of a denture color chart
Ivoclar's SR Ivocap product page lists a named shade range for its denture-base material. This illustrates why the base needs its own shade specification alongside the denture teeth. It is a manufacturer example, not a list of products offered by Colombia Smile Studio.
Ask to see the shade choices for the product in your own plan. Record the tooth shade and base shade separately, with their product names, so a short code does not have to carry the whole conversation.
A denture color chart example, read field by field
A useful denture color record separates the teeth from the gum-colored base. It also separates color from tooth shape. That makes it possible to describe one change without losing the choices you already like.
Dentsply Sirona's Portrait IPN range offers A-D, Bioform and bleach references. Those are options within a named tooth line, so recording only a shade code leaves out which product the discussion concerns.

The example has a named tooth reference and an unresolved base choice. It does not pair Portrait IPN with another manufacturer's base material. The treating team must determine the actual combination.
A mould describes tooth form. A shade describes color. If the teeth look too square but their color appeals to you, record a shape concern in the mould discussion rather than changing the shade entry. If the gum-colored portion is the concern, put that observation beside the base field.
Using a denture gum shade guide
The gum-colored base has its own material and color reference. Ivoclar's SR Ivocap documentation, for example, lists a range for its denture-base material. It illustrates the separate base choice; it does not identify a base for the tooth-product example above.
Review the base sample beside the tooth samples so you can describe the combination. Where natural teeth or another restoration will remain visible, include them in that discussion. A preference such as “keep the tooth color, but review the base” is more precise than “change the denture color.”
Older photographs can help explain the appearance you want to preserve, while the actual samples provide the references for the new discussion.
The American Dental Association describes dentures as removable replacements and notes that implants can support an overdenture. How the denture is supported is a separate decision from its shade. The implant-denture guide explains that treatment context.
Denture colors before approval and after delivery
Before a denture is completed, the color discussion concerns the proposed tooth and base choices. After delivery, it concerns an existing appliance. State which situation applies so the dentist can address the choice or concern you have now.
For a proposed denture, keep the named samples and your review notes together. Describe which part you like, which part you want to discuss changing and what you have actually reviewed. The treating team should explain which changes remain available at that stage.
For a delivered denture, describe the concern directly: the tooth color, the base color or how they look together. Bring any earlier reference record so the dentist can compare the concern with the documented choices. Have the dentist assess the appliance and explain the options for the concern you have identified.

Your denture shade questions, answered
Does a denture color chart specify both tooth and gum shades?
Check the chart title and product name. Tooth references and denture-base references may be presented separately. Ask for both where the plan includes a visible gum-colored portion, and record which product each code belongs to.
Does choosing A1 denture teeth identify their tooth line or manufacturer?
No. A1 alone does not identify the manufacturer, tooth line or mould. Ask for those details separately, together with the named shade system. A short shade code is not a complete denture specification.
Can conventional and implant-supported dentures use denture tooth shade guides?
Shade references can be relevant in both contexts, but product suitability needs confirmation. Ask which tooth line and base material are proposed for your particular denture; do not assume every product works with every support arrangement.
What should I record if I like the tooth shade but not the gum-colored base?
Record the tooth product, shade system and tooth-shade preference you want to keep. Put the concern beside the separate base-material and base-shade fields, describing what you would like to review. This preserves the tooth choice while making the base question clear. If the denture has already been delivered, state that too so the dentist can assess the existing appliance.
