Whitest Veneers? Understanding BL and 0M References
A very bright veneer reference still needs a system name. Separate the BL labels from VITA 0M references, then discuss the physical sample and the proposed material with your dentist.

Whitest veneers: start with the shade system
There is no single code that means the whitest veneers across every product. Identify the manufacturer and shade guide before comparing BL1-BL4, VITA 0M references or classical B1. Ask to review the proposed sample in the context of your teeth and full design.
Understand BL1-BL4 veneer shade labels
Ivoclar's ceramic shade reference lists BL1, BL2, BL3 and BL4 separately from the A-D shades. Keep those labels tied to their named product system.
Ask which material the proposed label refers to and which reference you will actually review. Do not turn an online photograph into a shade prescription.

Keep bleach shade systems separate
| Reference group | Named source | What to clarify |
|---|---|---|
| BL1, BL2, BL3, BL4 | Ivoclar ceramic shade documentation | Which product and physical sample are proposed? |
| 0M1, 0M2, 0M3 | VITA SYSTEM 3D-MASTER bleached shades | Is this the reference system being used? |
| B1 | VITA classical A1-D4 | Is the discussion about classical B1 rather than a BL label? |
VITA's bleached-shade documentation identifies 0M1, 0M2 and 0M3 as 3D-MASTER references that can be added to a classical guide. Their placement on the same holder does not make them classical codes.
This table identifies systems. It is not a conversion chart and makes no one-to-one equivalence between BL and 0M labels.
0M1, 0M2 and 0M3 tooth shades
VITA prints these labels with the number zero: 0M1, 0M2 and 0M3. An OM spelling in a search is not evidence of a separate shade family. Confirm the printed code and system with your dentist.
Explain what appeals to you about a bright reference: the overall brightness, the way it sits beside the lips, or another detail. Ask your dentist to separate those preferences from what is clinically proposed.
Keep shape, surface character and the surrounding teeth in the discussion rather than choosing a code in isolation. The natural-looking veneer guide explores the wider design.
If you are trying to compare B1 with a bleach label, use the B1 tooth shade guide for the classical reference. Do not treat B1 and BL1 as interchangeable names.
BL1 vs B1 tooth shade: different labels
B1 is a classical reference; BL1 belongs to a separately named bleach-shade set. Ask for the actual system rather than treating similar letters as equivalence.
Ask the dentist to write down the shade system, code and proposed material together. Then clarify what sample or review stage is available, what it can show, and when changes are still possible.
If you are worried that the result could look too bright, say so before the design is finalized. Ask how your preference will be recorded and communicated to the laboratory. A brighter label is not an instruction to choose more treatment.
The veneer shade guide brings the full shade-review process together. For questions about color after placement, read whitening and veneers.
If a plan uses 010 or 020, ask for the manufacturer and system name before interpreting it. This guide does not assign those labels an equivalence to BL or 0M.
For the classical comparison, see A1 vs B1. The Emax guide addresses material questions separately.

Keep your bleach-shade questions together
The Colombia Smile Studio guide focuses on planning veneers abroad. Use it for that context and keep your treatment-specific questions for your dentist.
Your bleach-shade questions, answered
How should I read 0M1 when a search spells the tooth shade OM1?
The VITA label starts with zero: 0M1. A search spelling with the letter O does not establish a different shade option. Confirm the manufacturer's printed label before recording it in a plan.
Can BL1-BL4 be converted directly to 0M1-0M3?
This guide provides no direct conversion. The BL and 0M labels belong to separately named reference systems. Ask the dentist to identify and review the actual sample proposed rather than substitute one label for another.
What system name should accompany a BL shade in a veneer plan?
Record the manufacturer, named shade guide, code and intended material. BL alone leaves the reference incomplete. Ask which physical sample will be used and how the agreed choice will reach the laboratory.
